FG Vows to End Poverty-Driven School Absenteeism

Minister of State for Education, Suwaiba Ahmad, has said no Nigerian child should be denied access to education because of financial hardship.

According to the minister, the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has prioritised policies designed to make education more accessible and affordable for students across the country.

Ahmad made the remarks on Friday during an inspection of schools participating in the AGILE programme in Kano State. During the visit, she toured Government Girls College and Government Girls Secondary School, Dukawuya, to assess infrastructure and learning conditions.

She noted that several government interventions have helped reduce the financial burden on students, particularly those in tertiary institutions.

The minister identified the Nigeria Education Loan Fund as one of the major initiatives supporting students through tuition assistance and other forms of financial aid.

“Poverty is no more an excuse not to go to school. Not only is your tuition paid, but stipends support transportation, daily subsistence and study materials,” she said.

Ahmad encouraged students, especially girls, to take advantage of opportunities created through ongoing reforms in the education sector.

She also disclosed that the Federal Government has introduced free online skills acquisition programmes aimed at empowering young Nigerians and improving employability.
