Wike Mocks Peter Obi Over Defection to NDC

Nyesom Wike has criticised former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, over his defection to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), accusing him of repeatedly abandoning political platforms instead of resolving internal crises.

Wike spoke on Wednesday during his monthly media chat in Abuja, where he questioned Obi’s leadership credentials and described his political movements as driven by personal interest rather than ideology.

According to the FCT minister, Obi has consistently failed to strengthen the parties he joined.

“Obi was in APGA. He couldn’t build the APGA. What is good in leadership? Leadership is for you to stand up to challenges and see how you settle those crises,” Wike said.

He recalled Obi’s movement from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and later to the Labour Party (LP), arguing that Obi left each platform when disputes emerged.

“He left APGA. He came to the PDP. He ran away from the PDP. He went to Labour. Labour had a crisis. He couldn’t also use his leadership skills to put Labour together. He ran away again from Labour,” he added.

Wike further criticised Obi’s recent move to the NDC, claiming it reflects a pattern of political inconsistency.

“He went to ADC. Now ADC has problems. He ran away from ADC again,” he said.

The minister alleged that Obi’s political decisions are largely motivated by convenience rather than commitment to party-building.

“All he is looking for is where food is ready. ‘Mama put’. Who will stabilise if you cannot stabilise?” Wike stated.

Wike also referenced reactions to the Supreme Court judgment on the ADC leadership dispute, accusing Obi and some of his supporters of taking contradictory positions on the ruling.

According to him, Obi initially praised the judgment before some supporters later suggested there were hidden implications in the decision.
