ADC Sets Up Convention Committee, Moves Ahead Despite Leadership Crisis

The African Democratic Congress faction led by former Senate President David Mark has unveiled a 22-member committee to coordinate its national convention scheduled for next Tuesday, despite an ongoing leadership dispute and objections from Independent National Electoral Commission.
The convention planning committee will be chaired by former governor Liyel Imoke, with former Sokoto governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal serving as vice chairman. “The committee will oversee preparations for the party’s national convention,” the party said.
Ajuji Ahmed was named secretary, while the broader convention structure will involve 339 members across 11 standing committees.
Other key members include former Imo governor Emeka Ihedioha, retired police commissioner Tajudeen Bakare, Aminu Abubakar Gwarzo, Emeka Nwajuba, and Simon Lalong.
The party also named sub-committee heads, including Olumide Akpata for legal matters, Victor Umeh for programmes, and Tony Nwoye for medical services.
Despite INEC’s decision to suspend recognition of both the Mark and Nafiu Bala factions pending a court ruling, the Mark-led camp insists the convention will go ahead.
The party accused INEC of acting in a partisan manner and warned that such interference could weaken opposition politics. “The actions of INEC pose a threat to Nigeria’s democratic system,” the ADC said, adding that it fears a drift toward a one-party state under President Bola Tinubu.
