Nyesom Wike, PDP National Leader, has vowed to rebuild the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to align with the aspirations of Nigerians, emphasizing inclusiveness, unity, and renewal. He made the pledge at the party’s 10th Elective National Convention in Abuja on Sunday.
Describing the PDP as fundamentally a people’s party, Wike stressed the importance of legitimate channels to ensure citizens’ voices are heard. “Together with all and sundry across all the nooks and crannies of our country, we shall rebuild our party in such a way that it will meet the yearnings and aspirations of the generality of Nigerians,” he said.
Wike commended party members for remaining resilient during crises, overcoming attempts at ethnic and geographic division, and restoring the party to its rightful owners—the people. “You refused to be downcast when those who pretended to be leaders of the party betrayed you disgracefully… Together, we are standing on the positive side of history with renewed energy, vision and purpose,” he added.
He lauded grassroots members for their loyalty, contrasting them with opportunistic elites and PDP governors who defected, saying their actions reflected poor leadership character. “When crises emerged, and it was time to demonstrate leadership, vision and courage, they ran away. That tells you who can truly stand firm in difficult times,” Wike noted.
Calling on all members to embrace a new era of collective commitment, Wike pledged that no one would be excluded in the party’s rebuilding process. “We must all sacrificially commit to a new era of purpose and collective vision, predicated on the core values enunciated by our founding fathers,” he said, signaling a united PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections.
