The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has announced plans to arraign former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, before the Federal High Court in Kaduna on Tuesday, (today), over alleged corruption offences.
The move comes after sustained pressure from groups including the African Democratic Congress, as well as criticism from Muslim Rights Concern and members of El-Rufai’s family, who had faulted his continued detention without formal charges.
In a statement by its Head of Media and Public Communications, John Odey, the commission said El-Rufai and one Joel Adoga would be docked in suit number FHC/KD/73/2026.
“The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) is set to arraign the former Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufa’i (m) and one Joel Adoga (m) at the Federal High Court of Nigeria in the Kaduna Judicial Division on Tuesday, the 24th March 2026.
“The suit with number FHC/KD/73/2026 has charges ranging from conversion of and possession of public property, to money laundering,” the statement read.
The agency also disclosed a separate case filed at a Kaduna State High Court involving El-Rufai and Amadu Sule, with allegations including abuse of office and fraud. It noted that both charges were filed on March 18, 2026, while the hearing date for the state case would be announced later.
“The charges in the State High Court case range from abuse of office, fraud, and intent to commit fraud to conferring undue advantage, among others. Both charges were filed by the ICPC on the 18th of March, 2026.
“The date of arraignment in the state High Court will be communicated at the appropriate time as determined by the court,” the statement further stated.
The commission added that El-Rufai has been duly served and reaffirmed its commitment to due process.
The former governor was initially detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission after honouring an invitation on February 16, granted bail on February 18, and later taken into ICPC custody, where he has remained amid calls for his arraignment.
