Floyd Mayweather Announces Professional Boxing Return at 48

Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. has confirmed he will return to professional boxing at age 48, with a sanctioned bout planned after his upcoming exhibition with Mike Tyson.

Mayweather retired in 2017 with a perfect 50–0 record after defeating Conor McGregor. While he has taken part in exhibition fights since then, he has not competed professionally in eight years.

“I still have what it takes to set more records in the sport of boxing,” Mayweather said.

He added that from his Tyson exhibition to his next professional fight, no event would surpass his in gate revenue, global audience, or earnings.

A comeback fight is tentatively scheduled for this summer, with an opponent yet to be named. His exhibition with Tyson is reportedly set for April 25 in the Congo, though details remain unconfirmed.

Nicknamed “Money,” Mayweather was once ranked by Forbes as the world’s highest-paid athlete, earning about $300 million in 2015. Renowned for his defensive brilliance and ring intelligence, he dominated the welterweight division for more than a decade.

Tyson, 59, last fought in November 2024, losing to Jake Paul in a high-profile event in Texas that drew roughly 70,000 fans and a massive global audience.

Mayweather has also signed an exclusive deal with CSI Sports/Fight Sports, signalling what could be one of boxing’s most commercially significant comebacks.
