The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed reports suggesting that Vice President Kashim Shettima could be replaced as President Bola Tinubu’s running mate in the 2027 general election.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, described the rumours as “purely speculative, untrue, and utterly baseless” in a statement issued yesterday in Abuja.
“Our attention has been drawn to growing media frenzy about the possible replacement of Vice President Kashim Shettima as the running mate to President Bola Tinubu under the platform of our great party ahead of the 2027 general election,” the statement read.
Morka noted that while such stories had mostly been subtle, they recently escalated with specific names being touted as potential replacements. He emphasised that these speculations have no basis in reality.
The APC also urged media organisations to avoid lending platforms to rumour-mongers and questionable news sources whose only aim is to sow discord and confusion in the polity.
Reiterating that laws and electoral regulations banning political activities remain in force, the party said its current focus is on supporting President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima in delivering the Renewed Hope Agenda, entrenching reforms, and transforming the economy to improve living conditions for Nigerians.
Morka further advised ministers and senior government officials to avoid stoking speculation, whether knowingly or unknowingly, and instead concentrate on “diligent service to government and our Party, and bolster the success and achievements of President Tinubu, our inimitable and visionary leader.”
