The Ooni of Ile-Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has conferred the title Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua on Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu. The ceremony, held on Sunday at Afewonro Park, Enuwa Square, inside the Ooni’s Palace, marked the grand finale of the monarch’s 10th Coronation Anniversary celebrations.
Traditional chiefs performed the rites according to Yoruba customs, while the Ooni expressed gratitude to the First Lady for her unwavering support over the past decade. He described her as “the mother of the nation,” acknowledging her steadfast presence during critical moments following his ascension in 2015.
In her address, Senator Oluremi Tinubu thanked God and the Ooni, describing the honour as humbling and divine. She praised the monarch’s visionary leadership, noting that his reign has enhanced global recognition for the Yoruba race, and expressed optimism for 2026, calling it “a year of joy, honour, and restoration.”
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo lauded the Ooni for the honour and encouraged the First Lady to continue her humanitarian work. Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, commended both the First Lady and the monarch for promoting unity, culture, and socioeconomic development in Ile-Ife.
The event drew traditional rulers, top government officials, and influential women, including the Sultan of Sokoto, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, and former First Lady Patience Jonathan, reflecting the national significance of the occasion and celebrating a decade of the Ooni’s impactful leadership.
