Obiano Debunks Viral Death Rumour, Says He Is “Alive, Hale and Hearty”

Former Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, has dismissed reports circulating about his death, describing the claim as the work of mischief makers.

In a personal message to Ndi Anambra, Obiano assured the public of his wellbeing, saying he remains “alive, hale, hearty, and in excellent health.” He added that despite attempts to spread falsehood, “we’re focused, grateful and guided by God’s grace.”

The rumour, which spread widely across Anambra’s media space and triggered emotional reactions from some of his close aides, was also refuted by his former Commissioner for Information, C. Don Adinuba.

Adinuba said the claim had “no basis,” clarifying that Obiano lives in Texas, United States not London, as widely reported. He described the former governor as healthy and “too agile for someone who has just turned 70,” adding that the widespread concern shown proves how deeply Obiano is valued.

Another aide, Onyebuchi Okpala, also urged the public to disregard the false report, reaffirming that the former governor is alive and wishing him continued good health.

Obiano governed Anambra from 2014 to 2022 and relocated to Houston, Texas after leaving office. He is currently standing trial at a Federal High Court for the alleged mismanagement of N4 billion during his tenure.

A kinsman, Chief Isaac Ezechukwu of the Aguleri Royal Cabinet, further dismissed the rumour, confirming that they had spoken to the former governor and that “he is not even on admission in the hospital.”

Obiano expressed gratitude to everyone who reached out, saying their calls, prayers and goodwill “mean more than words can express,” while urging the public to ignore the rumour entirely.
