Rivers Now Stable, My Relationship with Wike is Cordial — Fubara

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has assured that political stability has returned, stressing that his relationship with Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike is now cordial.

Speaking to State House correspondents on Monday after a courtesy visit to President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Fubara dismissed suggestions that the peace deal was superficial.
“As far as I’m concerned, we have made peace. Fubara and his principal are working together,” he said.

The governor described his meeting with Tinubu as a father-son discussion to express gratitude and seek guidance.
“You’re aware that suspension was lifted [at] midnight [on September] 17, and I came in on the 19th. Ideally, it’s proper for me to see Mr. President and tell him that I’m back, and I’ve resumed my responsibility as Governor of Rivers State,” he explained.

This was Fubara’s first official visit to the State House since his reinstatement after six months of emergency rule. The crisis that led to his suspension began shortly after his inauguration in May 2023, following a bitter fallout with Wike that split the State Assembly.

President Tinubu suspended Fubara, his deputy, and the Assembly on March 18, 2025, and appointed retired Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas as administrator. Reconciliation began in June, culminating on September 17 when Tinubu formally lifted the emergency rule.

In a statewide broadcast after his reinstatement, Fubara expressed “eternal gratitude” to the President for mediating the crisis and pledged to pursue unity and lasting stability in Rivers State.
