Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro was discharged on Wednesday from DF Star Hospital in the capital after being admitted the previous day for vomiting, dizziness, and low blood pressure, according to a statement from the medical facility.
Doctors confirmed that the 69-year-old’s condition had improved but emphasized that he will require ongoing follow-up care. The visit came just two days after he underwent treatment at the same hospital for the removal of suspicious skin lesions.
Subsequent pathology tests revealed that Bolsonaro had developed squamous cell carcinoma, an early-stage skin cancer. His physician, Dr. Claudio Birolini, stated that two cancerous lesions had been identified and successfully removed.
“The lesions were detected early and have been treated,” Birolini told reporters. “Nonetheless, ongoing monitoring will be essential to ensure there are no further developments.”
The health scare comes at a critical moment for Bolsonaro, who is embroiled in a deepening legal crisis. Just last week, Brazil’s Supreme Court sentenced him to 27 years and three months in prison for his alleged involvement in plotting a coup attempt following his loss in the 2022 presidential election.
Since August, Bolsonaro has been under house arrest, accused of attempting to coerce Brazil’s judiciary with support from former U.S. President Donald Trump, a key ally.
Bolsonaro, who served as president from 2019 to 2022, has faced a series of legal, political, and health-related setbacks since leaving office. The former leader continues to maintain his innocence and has described the charges as politically motivated.
As legal proceedings and medical challenges intensify, Bolsonaro’s future — both politically and personally — remains highly uncertain.
