National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has said more governors across the country will defect to the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general election.
Yilwatda made the remark on Tuesday at the Bayelsa State chapter’s 12th expanded stakeholders’ meeting in Yenagoa, where party members endorsed President Bola Tinubu for re-election.
Represented by APC Deputy National Chairman (South), Chief Emma Eneukwu, Yilwatda said President Tinubu’s performance has already attracted governors and lawmakers from other political parties, paving the way for what he described as an “overwhelming victory” in 2027.
Daily Trust recalls that Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwore, and Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, recently defected from the PDP to join the APC in support of Tinubu’s re-election bid.
“Our doors are still open. More governors are still moving into our party, more personalities are still moving in senators, members of the House of Representatives because of the calibre, integrity and the output of the person we made president,” Yilwatda said.
He dismissed opposition parties, likening Tinubu to a lion that ignores barking dogs. “It is expected that dogs will bark, it is expected that opposition will speak and rise, but it is well assured that we have a product that even a blind man in this country will support overwhelmingly,” he added.
Yilwatda also commended governors in the South-South and South-East for what he described as their “realism” in abandoning their former parties to back Tinubu, saying their decision demonstrates a collective resolve to “move Nigeria forward” and make governance easier in 2027.
“The president is not afraid; he takes the bull by the horn. What others do not have the political will to embark on, he goes about it and achieves results. This president is on the move to take Nigeria to a greater height,” he stated.
Also speaking at the meeting, former Bayelsa State Governor, Chief Timipre Sylva, assured that the APC in Bayelsa remains united and prepared ahead of the 2027 elections.
