Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Governor of Ondo State, has announced that the new high court complex under construction in Akure will be named after the late Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, former governor of the state. Akeredolu, who passed away on December 27, 2023, at the age of 67 after battling prostate cancer, is being honored for his significant contributions and enduring legacy.
Speaking at the foundation-laying ceremony in Akure on Friday, Aiyedatiwa revealed that the complex would be named the Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu Judiciary Complex to commemorate the late leader’s vision for the state’s judicial system.
“This development is the actualization of the dream and vision of our late leader, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu,” Aiyedatiwa said. “It was his desire to provide a state-of-the-art high court complex to enhance the workload and welfare of our judiciary.”
The governor described the project as a historic milestone for Ondo State, emphasizing that since its creation in 1976, no modern judicial administration edifice has been constructed. Despite financial constraints, Aiyedatiwa underscored the project’s significance, noting that it reflects the government’s commitment to creating an environment conducive to justice and improving the welfare of judicial officers.
The judiciary complex, spanning 13 hectares, will feature:
- A ceremonial court
- Modular courts
- A registry
- A library
- Exhibition buildings
- A utility building
- Modern parking facilities
Designed to accelerate the administration of justice in Ondo State, the project has been awarded to Westfield Global Construction Company, with a 48-week completion timeline.
“This project is more than a structure; it is a testament to our commitment to justice and the enduring vision of Oluwarotimi Akeredolu,” Aiyedatiwa concluded.
