Kano Governor Reshuffles Cabinet in Major Political Shake-Up

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has implemented a significant cabinet reshuffle, removing several key officials, including the Secretary to the State Government, the Chief of Staff, the Commissioner for Information, and four other commissioners.

This development was announced by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, who described the decision as a strategic political realignment aimed at enhancing administrative efficiency and delivering greater democratic dividends to Kano residents.

Among those affected, the Chief of Staff, Alh. Shehu Wada Sagagi, had his office scrapped, while Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, was relieved of his duties due to health reasons.

Governor Yusuf also retained several key cabinet members, including:

  • Barr. Haruna Isa Dederi (Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice)
  • Dr. Danjuma Mahmoud (Commissioner for Agriculture)
  • Dr. Abubakar Labaran (Commissioner for Health)
  • Hon. Abduljabbar Mohammed Umar (Commissioner for Land and Physical Planning)
  • Hon. Musa Suleiman Shannon (Commissioner for Budget and Planning)
  • Engr. Marwan Ahmad (Commissioner for Works and Housing)

Other retained commissioners include those overseeing Solid and Mineral Resources, Religious Affairs, Youth and Sports, Investment and Commerce, and Internal Security and Special Services.

Additionally, some officials were reassigned to new roles. These include:

  • Deputy Governor Comrade Aminu Abdulssalam, from Local Government to Higher Education.
  • Hon. Mohammad Tajo Usman, from Science and Technology to Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
  • Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar Mata, from Higher Education to Science, Technology, and Innovation.
  • Hon. Amina Abdullahi, from Humanitarian and Poverty Alleviation to Women, Children, and Disabled Affairs.
  • Hon. Nasiru Sule Garo, from Environment and Climate Change to Special Duties.

Other notable reassignments involve reshuffles between the Ministries of Transport, Education, Water Resources, Tourism, and Project Monitoring and Evaluation.

Five cabinet members, including Ibrahim Jibril Fagge (Finance), Ladidi Ibrahim Garko (Culture and Tourism), Baba Halilu Dantiye (Information and Internal Affairs), Shehu Aliyu Yammedi (Special Duties), and Abbas Sani Abbas (Rural and Community Development), were dropped from their roles.

Governor Yusuf has instructed the dismissed Chief of Staff and the affected commissioners to report to the Governor’s office for potential reassignment. The restructuring reflects the Governor’s commitment to ensuring optimal performance within his administration.
