President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to tackling Nigeria’s critical challenges, vowing that his government will not shirk its responsibilities. Speaking during the swearing-in of seven newly appointed ministers at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Tinubu pledged to crack down on profiteers and smugglers exploiting the nation’s resources.
Following an October cabinet reshuffle, Tinubu replaced six ministers and reassigned 10 others, signaling his administration’s continued efforts to revitalize governance. Addressing the new appointees, Tinubu congratulated them for joining the team tasked with “rescuing Nigeria” and urged them to stay focused despite inevitable criticism. “Your thanks will come with the history of growth and prosperity for this country,” he said.
The President also highlighted progress in reducing Nigeria’s national debt burden. He noted that under his administration, the country’s debt servicing to revenue ratio had improved, dropping from a precarious 97% to 65%. This, he emphasized, allows Nigeria to meet both foreign and domestic obligations without default.
In the face of global economic challenges, Tinubu remarked that Nigeria is managing to navigate these tough times and is committed to economic recovery. “All other countries around us and across the world are facing challenges,” he said, affirming that his administration is working tirelessly to address the economic crisis and steer the nation toward recovery.
Expressing gratitude to the ministers for their dedication during difficult times, Tinubu praised their efforts over the past 17 months, noting that they have been instrumental in putting Nigeria on the path to economic recovery. He urged the newly appointed ministers to remain resilient, assuring them that economic recovery is within reach and will benefit future generations.
The newly sworn-in ministers include Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda (Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction), Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi (Labour and Employment), Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu (Minister of State for Foreign Affairs), and Dr. Jumoke Oduwole (Industry, Trade, and Investment). Other appointments are Idi Mukhtar Maiha (Livestock Development), Yusuf Abdullahi Ata (Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development), and Dr. Suwaiba Said Ahmad (Minister of State for Education).
