Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has emerged victorious in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leadership crisis, outmaneuvering Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and other party governors.
The PDP National Working Committee (NWC), led by acting National Chairman Umar Damagum, has thrown its support behind the Rivers State congresses, aligning with Wike’s stance. During a long-delayed meeting held at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja, the NWC approved the Rivers and other state congresses, and postponed the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting to October 24, from its original September 26 date.
An anonymous senior NWC member confirmed Wike’s triumph, stating that despite opposition from some NWC members, Wike’s loyalists secured the congress approvals, further solidifying his influence within the party. The NEC is now the only body that could potentially challenge the decision.
