Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo has called for dialogue with aviation unions ahead of their planned protests on September 18, sparked by the government’s decision to deduct 50% of internally generated revenue (IGR) from aviation agencies. In a statement on Thursday, Keyamo assured the unions that the government is working to address their concerns.
“We recognize the unions’ concerns about the IGR deductions,” he said, adding that President Bola Tinubu is reviewing the matter, which impacts the sector’s safety and operations. A meeting with union leaders is scheduled for September 17, giving the president time to intervene.
Keyamo urged the unions to reconsider the protests and opt for dialogue, expressing confidence in finding a solution that balances sector sustainability and operational efficiency. He thanked the unions for their patience and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to resolving the issue.
