Operatives of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) in Abuja conducted an investigation into allegations of discriminatory practices against Nigerians at a Chinese supermarket on Wednesday.
The FCCPC summoned the owners of the supermarket following the closure of the facility on Monday over allegations of discrimination.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Federal Government agency said, “Owners of the Abuja Chinese Supermarket facing allegations of discriminatory practices responded to our summons today to answer questions regarding the allegations. FCCPC operatives have conducted an inspection of the facility.”
The agency’s operatives also conducted an inspection of the facility as part of the ongoing investigation.
The supermarket, located at the China General Chamber of Commerce along Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Road in the Federal Capital Territory, allegedly restricted entry to individuals of Chinese origin only.
This discriminatory policy sparked outrage after a viral video surfaced online, showing an Abuja resident expressing discontent over the discriminatory practices.
The agency took swift action in response to the public outcry, shutting down the supermarket and launching an investigation into the matter.
