Among the suspects arrested were two teenagers, Timilehin Femi (12), aka Anini, and Sunday Ojo (16), aka Oyenusi; and 20-year-old Odeyemi Ayodele, aka Osunbor.
Anini, Oyenusi, and Osunbor were hardened criminals who were killed by firing squad during the military era.
The suspect confessed to having taken part in more than forty robbery operations while being paraded at the headquarters of Amotekun in Alagbaka, Akure.
Parading the suspects on Thursday at the command headquarters in Akure, the state capital, the Commander of the corps, Adetunji Adeyeye, said the three boys specialized in armed robbery.
According to the Amotekun boss, apart from the trio, 16 other suspects were apprehended for various criminal activities such as kidnapping, rape, stealing, and open grazing, among others.
Adeyeye said, “One of the three juveniles (Oyenusi) was arrested last year, taken to a rehabilitation center and was later released because of his age.
“His mother was arrested too because ‘Oyenusi’ confessed to us that his mother was the one preparing charms for him to prevent his downfall and arrest by security agents and his mother has been a beneficiary of the crime proceeds.
“This time around, we will write to the state Ministry of Justice for possible advice on what to do about them. But for their mothers, who have been aiding them, they will be charged to court.”
Recovered from the suspects were guns, bullets, phones, and money.
Adeyeye said the suspects had confessed to the crime and would be charged in court.
Femi also known as ‘Anini,’ while speaking noted that he started robbing when he was 12 years old, adding that his mother, Iyabo Femi, used to give him charms to keep him from being caught.
He said “I used to keep my gun inside the ceiling and sometimes I used to give it to our herbalist to keep. After robbery operations, we used to hand over the stolen goods to the herbalist who will in turn sell them. But we don’t hand over any cash to him. I have participated in about 46 operations.”
Ojo nicknamed ‘Oyenusi’ while speaking noted that he had lost counts of the robbery operations he had been involved in, he said, “I was given the name Oyenusi by people within my neighborhood.”
Amotekun also apprehended the mother of Ojo, their herbalist, Kehinde Ayodele, as well as the mother of the herbalist.
The Amotekun Commander, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, while speaking on their arrest said “It is amazing that we have a second-time armed robber who named himself Oyenusi and the first-timer here is a 13-year-old and confessed that has to climb a stool to keep his weapon in the ceiling and he is being empowered by the mother to guarantee that nobody could arrest him.”
