The explosion occurred as a result of an accident involving a Liquefied Petroleum Gas tanker and a granite truck in the area.
It was discovered that the granite truck collided with a stationed LPG tanker at the Ohoror junction axis of the east/west route, resulting in an explosion.
In the unfortunate incident, two persons were confirmed dead, and over twenty residences and valuables worth millions of naira were destroyed.
The drivers of the automobiles were claimed to be among those killed in the explosion.
Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and Delta State House of Assembly Speaker Sherrif Oborevwori, as well as Chairman of Ughelli North, Godwin Adode, visited the scene of the incident hours after the explosion.
The governor expressed his condolences to the victims and promised them that the government will take aggressive measures to mitigate the effects of the inferno on them.
He also demanded an urgent investigation into the major causes of the gas explosion, instructing the state director of fire service to remain on the scene until the truck transporting gas and posing a hazard to the neighborhood was removed.
Meanwhile, residents have been warned to avoid the explosion site and to remain watchful in order to avoid further loss of life and property.
