Ker’Sean Ramey, 41, is set to receive a lethal injection at the state penitentiary in Huntsville. If carried out, his execution would be the sixth in Texas this year, with three more scheduled.

Ramey was convicted of capital murder and sentenced to death for the 2005 killings of Samuel Roberts, 24, Tiffani Peacock, 18, and Celso Lopez, 38, at the home they shared in Edna, a small city about 100 miles southwest of Houston.

According to court records, Ramey and LeJames Norman went to the home believing cocaine was inside and intending to steal it. No drugs were found, and the three residents were fatally shot.

Norman, who lived across the street from the victims, testified during Ramey’s trial that both men participated in the shootings. Lopez was shot four times, including three times in the back of the head; Peacock was shot twice in the head; and Roberts was shot five times in the chest, neck and head.

Ramey’s defense attorneys argued at trial that Norman was responsible for the killings.

About a year after testifying against Ramey, Norman pleaded guilty to capital murder and was subsequently sentenced to death by a jury. He was executed in Huntsville on Sept. 16. Norman made no final statement, and no relatives or friends of the victims attended the execution.

Ramey’s attorneys have filed a final appeal with the U.S. Supreme Court seeking to stop his execution. They argue that no physical evidence directly linked him to the murders and that jurors were not presented with evidence about his childhood, including allegations of physical abuse and poverty, when deciding his sentence.

Prosecutors have argued in lower courts that Ramey has not raised issues that warrant reconsideration of his conviction or death sentence.

Unless the Supreme Court intervenes or another last-minute reprieve is granted, Ramey’s execution is scheduled to proceed Wednesday in Huntsville.
