The Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) Director of New Media and Strategic Communications, Theo Abu Agada, has urged the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race and support Peter Obi.
Agada said the opposition would have a stronger chance of defeating President Bola Tinubu if Atiku stepped aside and rallied behind the NDC’s presidential candidate.
In a post on X, the NDC chieftain argued that abandoning his presidential ambition would not diminish Atiku’s legacy but could help unite the opposition ahead of the 2027 election.
While describing Atiku as a capable leader with a compelling vision for Nigeria, Agada maintained that the time had come for him to prioritise the broader opposition over personal ambition.
He wrote: “Every electioneering season. AA is a good and solid man, but he needs to give it up at this point.
“His idea for a working Nigeria is brilliant but at this point, he needs to give up his ambition.
“If he steps aside, nothing is going to affect his sterling legacy. AA should support Obi to kick the APC out.”
Agada’s remarks come days after the former vice president announced that the 2027 presidential election would be the last time he would seek Nigeria’s highest office, regardless of the outcome.
Atiku made the disclosure during a Facebook Live session.
