Wike Stands Firm Against PDP Governors, Cuts Ties with Governor Fubara

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stood by his earlier threats against governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), clarifying that his warnings were meant to address potential crises they could cause in Rivers State, not physical harm.

In an interview on Channels Television, Wike responded to calls for his arrest made by elder statesman Edwin Clark. He dismissed Clark’s remarks, questioning his relevance within the PDP, as Clark is not a registered member of the party. “I have always tried not to respond to Papa Edwin Clark, I am human. Edwin Clark is not fair,” Wike remarked. He added, “Let me see his membership card and how much he has contributed to the PDP.”

The former Rivers State governor affirmed that he would not back down from his stance, saying, “Heaven will never fall. When heaven falls, there will be peace.”

Wike also announced that he would no longer support the current Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara. Despite playing a significant role in helping Fubara secure the governorship in 2023, Wike expressed disappointment, accusing Fubara of misrepresentation and false claims. “I will never support Fubara again in my political life. Everyone knows me,” Wike declared. He alleged that Fubara had falsely claimed that Wike demanded large sums of money.

This political rift in Rivers State has resulted in a division within the state house of assembly, which is now split into two factions. One faction, led by Martin Amaewhule and comprising 27 members, supports Wike, while the opposing faction, led by Victor Jumbo and recognized by Governor Fubara, includes three lawmakers. The factions are currently engaged in a legal battle to determine the legitimate assembly group.
