Alhaji Aliko Dangote, chairman of the Dangote Group, has announced a substantial N2 billion donation to support the victims of the recent catastrophic floods in Maiduguri, Borno State.
During a visit to Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum on Friday, Dangote revealed that the Presidential Committee on Flood and Disaster, which he leads, has allocated N1 billion towards the relief efforts. The Aliko Dangote Foundation will contribute an additional N1 billion. “We will ensure this N2 billion is delivered within the coming week,” Dangote confirmed.
Dangote expressed his distress over the severe damage caused by the floods, describing the destruction as “mind-boggling” and unprecedented in his experience. He highlighted the extensive damage to homes, noting, “Most of the houses will not survive as they have been submerged and their foundations weakened.”
He called upon other Nigerian corporations to join in the relief efforts, underscoring that the government alone cannot address the crisis. “We need collective support to ensure that people do not continue to suffer,” Dangote urged.
The businessman assured ongoing efforts to gather additional funds and resources to support the affected residents. Governor Zulum expressed his deep appreciation for Dangote’s generosity and his commitment to aiding the people of Borno State.
