Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and a key figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Nyesom Wike, has urged the party to intensify reconciliation efforts, assuring aggrieved members that they will not lose their entitlements if they return.

Wike made the call on Monday during the 108th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held at Wadata Plaza, Abuja, where he pushed for the creation of a strong reconciliation committee to reach out to dissatisfied members who left the party.

“Chairman and your team should put in place a strong committee to reach out to those who are aggrieved. There is room for them to come back, and whatever is due to them will still be given,” he said.

The former Rivers State governor said many defections were driven by uncertainty and the search for political stability, stressing that resolving internal disputes was crucial for the party’s survival.

“In life, there must be a period of crisis. What matters is how we resolve the crisis. Now that we are together, we must not stop at reconciliation,” he said.

Reaffirming his loyalty, Wike insisted he remains committed to the party despite ongoing tensions.

“I have been a member of this party since 1998 and I will not leave. Whatever happens, we will continue to live as members of the PDP,” he stated.

He also called for transparency and openness within the party as a means of rebuilding trust and encouraging estranged members to return.

“If you engage them, they will understand and support the party. There is a need for openness so that we can achieve the unity we desire,” he added.

Earlier, PDP National Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed said the party had entered a new phase focused on strategy, consultation, and election preparedness.

“The era of uncertainty is behind us. The era of strategy, consultation, and electoral preparation has begun,” he said, adding that the party would comply strictly with the Electoral Act and INEC guidelines in its congresses.

Also speaking, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Mao Ohuabunwa, stressed that unity remains essential to the party’s future electoral strength. He urged members to embrace inclusiveness and warned that internal exclusion could weaken the party’s chances.

Ohuabunwa also called for discipline and adherence to the party constitution, while commending ongoing reforms such as the e-registration exercise aimed at strengthening internal structures and repositioning the PDP ahead of future elections.
