The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has unveiled a groundbreaking initiative allowing students to resit their WASSCE papers as early as January and February 2025, significantly reducing the waiting period compared to the previous system.
John Kapi, Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, announced the programme, dubbed WASSCE PC1, during an interview on JoyNews’ AM Show in Ghana on December 31st.
“Students who check their results and find they need to retake one or two papers have until January 8th to register online through our website or at WAEC-accredited internet cafés,” Kapi stated. “The exams will run from January 24th to February 15th, 2025.”
To support candidates, WAEC will expedite the release of chief examiners’ reports, providing comprehensive feedback on common mistakes and better preparation strategies.
“This initiative has been widely advertised through banners, our website, and the results checker platform to ensure awareness among students and parents,” Kapi added.
The programme is open to students whose results have been cancelled, provided they have not been banned for malpractice. Exams will initially be conducted in regional capitals due to the limited number of candidates.
Kapi urged prospective participants to complete their registration by the January 8th deadline to benefit from this opportunity.
WAEC expressed optimism that this initiative will help students improve their grades swiftly and avoid a year-long delay in academic progress, enabling them to qualify for the next admission cycle.
