Years after the failed Nigeria Air project under former President Muhammadu Buhari and ex-aviation minister Hadi Sirika, the Federal Government is now set to revive the bid for a national carrier.
Ibrahim Kana, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, confirmed that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is committed to reviving the national carrier initiative.
Kana disclosed that the president has instructed collaboration between the aviation industry and the head of the service to both establish the carrier and improve airport security across the country.
“The first task is to ensure the national carrier’s establishment, and the second is to sanitize airports nationwide,” Kana stated.
He emphasized the urgency of the project, remarking, “There is no better time to have a national carrier than now; in fact, yesterday.” Kana further expressed confidence that the current administration would successfully launch the national carrier in a short period.
