Tinubu to Attend John Mahama’s Inauguration in Ghana

President Bola Tinubu will travel to Accra, Ghana, today, January 6 2025, to attend the inauguration of Ghana’s President-elect John Mahama on January 7.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga.

Mahama, who previously served as Ghana’s 12th president from 2011 to 2017, was reelected in December 2024 and will succeed President Nana Akuffo-Addo, who has held office since 2017.

According to Onanuga, Tinubu’s visit comes at the invitation of Mahama, who met with the Nigerian leader in December.

“Mahama and Tinubu have a longstanding personal relationship, just like Nigeria and Ghana maintain a longstanding bilateral relationship,” Onanuga said.

As the Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, Tinubu will join other African leaders at the inauguration ceremony.

The statement added that the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and other senior government officials would accompany Tinubu on the trip.
