Trump Refuses Second Debate with Harris, Citing Clear Win in First Showdown

Donald Trump has declined to participate in another presidential debate against Kamala Harris before the November election. Speaking on Thursday, just two days after their first debate in Philadelphia, Trump claimed that Harris was pushing for a rematch because he “clearly” won the initial showdown. However, instant polls conducted after the debate suggested that many voters felt Harris had outperformed her Republican opponent.

Trump further remarked that Harris should focus on her role as vice president instead of seeking another debate.

At a campaign rally in North Carolina, Harris countered, stating that another debate is owed to voters given the high stakes of the election. With only two months remaining, polls indicate that the race between the two candidates is extremely close.

Both candidates declared victory after Tuesday’s 90-minute debate, during which Harris challenged Trump with pointed attacks on his rally crowd sizes and his actions during the January 6th Capitol riot, putting him on the defensive. Trump and his supporters have since accused the ABC moderators of bias in favor of Harris, and on Thursday, Trump reiterated that he did not need another debate.
