President Bola Tinubu emphasizes the federal government’s commitment to deploy available resources for establishing peace in the South-East geopolitical zone.
Tinubu made the statement yesterday during the unveiling of the Peace in South-East Project (PISE-P) and the Thanksgiving Service/Homecoming ceremony dedicated to Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chief Benjamin Kalu. The significant gathering occurred at the Sports Arena of Bende Local Government Area. PISE-P, a five-year initiative by the deputy speaker, aims to address the complex socio-economic challenges and security threats in the South-East.
The president, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, highlighted the region’s significance as an industrial hub crucial for national economic development. He conveyed the Federal Government’s concern about the substantial economic damage caused by non-state actors in the area. The President affirmed that the Federal Government won’t tolerate clandestine activities by economic saboteurs posing as advocates of Ndigbo in the region.
Highlighting the challenges faced by the South-East, he emphasized the government’s proactive stance, stating, “We are not going to sit back and watch the fire go beyond what we can handle. We are here to extinguish the fire permanently.”
