The Presidency has called for legal action against social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as Very Dark Man, over the circulation of an alleged fake audio purportedly linked to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, made the call in a post on X, accusing the influencer of spreading false information and abusing social media platforms.
He described the alleged audio as fake and said the influencer should “face the weight of the law” for disseminating what he termed misleading content.
The controversy centres on a viral audio recording allegedly featuring President Tinubu, in which the voice claims that insecurity in Nigeria would persist because Nigerians did not vote for him in the 2023 election.
In a related video, the influencer reportedly referenced the audio while urging Nigerians not to support Tinubu’s re-election bid in the 2027 elections.
Onanuga’s reaction followed online debates triggered by users questioning the authenticity of the recording, with some dismissing it as political propaganda and others expressing concern over misinformation on social media.
The incident has continued to generate widespread reactions online, with renewed discussions about digital misinformation, political content, and accountability on social media platforms.
