President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Shamsedeen Ogunjimi as the new Accountant General of the Federation, following a rigorous selection process.
A statement from Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, confirmed that Tinubu approved Ogunjimi’s appointment on Tuesday, effective March 7, 2025 the same day the incumbent, Oluwatoyin Madehin, is set to retire.
Ogunjimi, 57, was initially named as Madehin’s successor last December. His appointment followed a competitive, merit-based selection process involving Federal Civil Service Directors of Accounts. Candidates underwent a three-stage evaluation, including a written test, an ICT proficiency exam, and an oral interview.
“This selection process underscores President Tinubu’s commitment to promoting transparency, excellence, and competence in key public service positions,” the statement read.
Ogunjimi holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accountancy from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and a Master’s in Accounting and Finance from the University of Lagos. He is a fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria.
Congratulating Ogunjimi, President Tinubu urged him to uphold integrity, professionalism, and dedication in his new role.
