Suspect in White House Correspondents’ Dinner Shooting Set to Face Charges

Cole Tomas Allen, the man accused in the shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, is scheduled to appear in court Monday to face firearms and assault charges.

The incident unfolded shortly after 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the Washington Hilton, as the annual black-tie event was underway. Gunfire inside the venue prompted U.S. Secret Service agents to quickly secure U.S. President Donald Trump and other senior officials, while attendees took cover.

Authorities said the suspect shot and wounded a law enforcement officer before being apprehended near the event’s security screening area. The injured officer is expected to recover.

In the aftermath, Trump addressed the incident in an interview with 60 Minutes, criticizing journalist Norah O’Donnell for referencing portions of an alleged manifesto linked to the suspect.

Trump rejected the claims cited in the document, calling them false and condemning their public airing.

The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing.
