Suspect Arrested in Tuskegee University Shooting That Left One Dead, 16 Injured During Homecoming

A suspect has been arrested in connection with the deadly shooting at Tuskegee University in Alabama that claimed the life of an 18-year-old and left at least 16 others injured early Sunday.

Authorities reported that Jaquez Myrick, 25, of Montgomery, was charged with possession of a machine gun after he was found leaving the scene of the shooting. The gunfire erupted around 1:40 a.m. on the Macon County campus as centennial homecoming celebrations were concluding.

The Macon County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as La’Tavion Johnson late Sunday night. Police stated that 12 individuals were injured by gunfire, while an additional four sustained injuries during the incident, some while attempting to flee to safety.
