Ogun Govt Issues Quit, Demolition Notice to Gbenga Daniel’s Residence, Hotels

The Ogun State Government has served quit and demolition notices on properties belonging to Senator Gbenga Daniel, former governor of the state and current senator representing Ogun East, in a move that has reignited political tensions with Governor Dapo Abiodun.

On Friday, officials delivered a Notice of Contravention, Quit Notice, and demolition threat to Asoludero Court Daniel’s private residence in Sagamu as well as Conference Hotel Limited and its adjoining annex in the same city. The notices, issued under the Ogun State Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law No. 61 of 2022, alleged that the properties lack proper planning permits and building setbacks.

According to authorities, the buildings could be demolished within three days unless the alleged infractions are corrected.

The dispute mirrors a September 2023 incident in which the government demolished DATKEM Plaza in Ijebu-Ode  a property owned by Daniel’s wife, Olufunke  valued at over ₦1 billion.

Daniel’s media aide, Steve Oliyide, condemned the latest notices as “politically motivated,” accusing Governor Abiodun of “malicious and vindictive abuse of power” by enforcing a law enacted in 2022 on structures completed years earlier Asoludero Court (2004), Conference Hotel (2013), and the annex (2015).

“This is a thuggish tactic designed to intimidate and inflict damage,” Oliyide said, urging security agencies and human rights organisations to intervene.

However, the governor’s media aide, Kayode Akinmade, dismissed the claims, insisting the move was part of a routine development audit exercise in Ijebu-Ode and Sagamu GRAs.

“Many other structures were also served notices. All Senator Gbenga Daniel needs to do… is present his planning permit and land title for verification rather than resorting to cheap blackmail,” Akinmade said, adding that “nobody is bigger than the state.”
