Sokoto Govt Warns Against Politicising Insecurity, Urges Public Support

The Sokoto State Government has urged residents to refrain from making statements that could undermine ongoing efforts to combat insecurity across the state.

In a statement issued Monday, Col. Ahmed Usman (rtd), Special Adviser on Security to Governor Ahmed Aliyu, responded to comments by Basharu Altine Guyawa, who allegedly criticized the government’s handling of security matters.

Describing Guyawa’s remarks as “misleading and harmful,” Usman cautioned against sensationalizing or politicizing insecurity, emphasizing that such actions could diminish public confidence in both government and security agencies.

“Our people should avoid sensationalising and politicising insecurity,” Usman said. “Instead, they should support the government in its efforts to find lasting solutions.”

He stressed that Sokoto would not tolerate actions or rhetoric designed to frustrate or distract from security operations.

Usman also highlighted recent gains made in the eastern part of the state, where joint military operations dismantled several bandit hideouts, neutralized multiple criminals, and rescued numerous kidnap victims.

Reiterating the government’s dedication to peace, Usman called on residents to work with authorities to ensure lasting security across the state.
