Shooting Near Israeli Embassy in Jordan Leaves Gunman Dead, Three Officers Injured

A gunman was fatally shot, and three police officers were injured in a shooting near the Israeli embassy in Amman, Jordan, on Sunday. According to Jordan’s state news agency Petra, the attacker opened fire on a police patrol in the Rabiah neighborhood before being neutralized by security forces.

The heavily secured area surrounding the Israeli embassy was swiftly locked down as authorities launched an investigation. Residents were advised to stay indoors during the operation, which unfolded against a backdrop of heightened tensions related to the ongoing Gaza conflict.

The Rabiah neighborhood, known for frequent anti-Israel demonstrations, has experienced increasing unrest in recent weeks. Jordan, home to millions of citizens of Palestinian descent, has been a hub of peaceful protests in solidarity with Gaza, condemning Israeli military actions.

While Jordan maintains a 1994 peace treaty with Israel, the agreement remains deeply unpopular among Jordanians, many of whom see it as a compromise of Palestinian rights.

The incident occurs amid a surge in anti-Israel sentiment across the region, fueled by the Gaza crisis. Jordan’s proximity to Israel and its significant Palestinian-origin population have positioned it as a focal point for political and humanitarian reactions to the ongoing conflict.
