Senate Confirms Three New Resident Electoral Commissioners for INEC

The Nigerian Senate has confirmed the appointment of Tukur Abdulrazaq, Sunday Aja, and Saseyib Ibeyemi as new Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Abdulrazaq will represent the North West, Aja the South East, and Ibeyemi, Ondo State. Their appointments, approved on Thursday, February 6, followed a nomination by President Bola Tinubu and the adoption of the Senate Committee on Electoral Matters’ report.

Presenting the committee’s findings, Chairman Alli Sharafadeen described the nominees as seasoned electoral managers, stating that no petitions were filed against them.

During the plenary session, Senate Deputy President Jibrin Barau commended the committee for its diligence in the screening process. He urged the newly appointed RECs to uphold the integrity of their office and discharge their duties in line with the law.
