Sen. McConnell in Hospital After Flu-Like Symptoms

Sen. Mitch McConnell has been hospitalized for medical evaluation after experiencing flu-like symptoms, his office said Monday.

“In an abundance of caution, after experiencing flu-like symptoms over the weekend, Senator McConnell checked himself into a local hospital for evaluation last night,” spokesman David Popp said in a statement. “His prognosis is positive, and he is grateful for the excellent care he is receiving. He remains in regular contact with his staff and looks forward to returning to Senate business.”

McConnell, 84, announced in February of last year that he plans to retire at the end of his current Senate term, bringing an end to one of the longest leadership tenures in congressional history.

In March 2023, McConnell was hospitalized for five days after suffering a concussion and a fractured rib following a fall at a hotel in Washington, D.C.

No additional details were provided about the current hospitalization.
