Sanwo-Olu Named Chairman of South-West Governors’ Forum

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor of Lagos, has been unanimously appointed as the chairman of the South-West Governors’ Forum, the umbrella body for all six governors in the geo-political zone.
This decision followed the death of Rotimi Akeredolu, the former governor of Ondo, in December 2023.
Speaking with journalists on Monday at the Lagos House in Alausa, Sanwo-Olu detailed the outcomes of their over four-hour meeting. The governors collectively rejected the agitation for a Yoruba nation and expressed gratitude to the House of Representatives and the South-West caucus for their work on the South West Development Commission Bill, urging the Senate to expedite its passage.
Sanwo-Olu also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for initiatives like the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road project and called for further road rehabilitations by the federal government. On security, the governors praised the peace in the south-west and advocated for the establishment of state police, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between security agencies and the Amotekun Corps.
Additional resolutions included supporting ongoing discussions on the minimum wage, endorsing federal efforts on mineral resources with increased state collaboration, and enhancing the efficiency of the DAWN commission for economic integration.
Governors present at the meeting were Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Ademola Adeleke (Osun), and Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti).
