Kano High Court Bars EFCC from Arresting Rabiu Kwankwaso, NNPP Leaders

A Kano High Court, located at Audu Bako Secretariat, has issued an order preventing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from arresting, detaining, harassing, intimidating, or summoning Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). The ruling was made by Justice Yusuf Ubale Mohammed.
The court also extended this protection to other NNPP members, including Buba Galadima, Dr. Ajuji Ahmed, Dipo Olayanku, Ahmed Balewa, Chief Clement Anele, and Lady Folshade Aliu. The EFCC and its representatives were barred from taking any action that would infringe on the fundamental human rights of the applicants until the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.
This order followed an ex-parte motion filed on June 5, 2024, by the applicants’ lawyers, Robert Hon Esq. and Y.Y. Dan Suleiman Esq. The motion requested an interim injunction against the EFCC to prevent any form of harassment or rights violations against the applicants.
The court mandated that the interim order, the motion on notice, and all related documents be served promptly to the EFCC before the next hearing date, set for June 24, 2024. The EFCC had initiated an investigation into the management of a N2.5 billion election campaign fund handled by the party’s National Working Committee, led by Kwankwaso.
