Federal prosecutors on Thursday released video footage showing the moment an armed suspect attempted to breach security at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, allegedly targeting U.S. President Donald Trump.
The video was shared by Washington, D.C.’s top federal prosecutor, Jeanine Pirro, amid speculation that a Secret Service agent injured during the incident may have been struck by friendly fire. Pirro dismissed those claims, stating there is no evidence to support that theory.
Earlier reports confirmed that the agent was hit while wearing a bullet-resistant vest, though it was initially unclear whether the shot came from the suspect.
Sean Curran said the agent was shot at close range by the attacker as he pushed through a security checkpoint. He added that the agent returned fire during the confrontation.
Trump also rejected the suggestion of friendly fire, telling reporters that the injury was not caused by fellow officers.
According to a law enforcement official cited by Reuters, the investigation has since concluded that the agent was not struck by friendly fire.
