President Bola Tinubu has stressed the importance of making difficult decisions for Nigeria’s development during his recent visit to China, calling it “very good and successful.” In Beijing, he emphasized that significant progress requires tough choices.
Addressing Nigerians at the China World Hotel, Tinubu outlined his administration’s commitment to boosting collaboration in infrastructure, trade, finance, energy, green economy, and mining. His meetings with Chinese leaders, including President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang, and participation in the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit aimed to fortify these sectors.
Tinubu urged Nigerians to embody discipline and commitment, drawing inspiration from China’s disciplined society. He encouraged Nigerians to represent their country positively and comply with local laws. Reassuring the diaspora, Tinubu highlighted that Nigeria’s Bank of Industry (BoI) is ready to partner with them to leverage opportunities in Nigeria. He stressed that making tough decisions is crucial for advancing infrastructure, education, and essential services.
Tinubu remarked, “Economic actions have a ripple effect, and it is our collective responsibility to build our nation. I am committed to leading this effort.” He acknowledged the challenge of achieving national consensus but affirmed his dedication to making the necessary decisions for progress.
Dr. Oche Barnabas, President of Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation (NIDO) China, praised Tinubu for strengthening Nigeria-China relations and supported Nigeria’s 4Ds initiative. Barnabas also requested Tinubu’s help in advocating for Nigeria’s recognition as a native English-speaking nation in China to enhance job and educational prospects for Nigerians.
Barnabas noted that such recognition would align with China’s previous designation of South Africa and could increase opportunities for Nigerians. The NIDO China chairman promised continued support for Tinubu’s administration and efforts to elevate Nigeria’s global presence.
