The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has announced that the rehabilitated old Port Harcourt refinery is now operating at 70% of its installed capacity, with plans to increase output to 90% in the near future.
The Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC) consists of two refineries: the old refinery with a capacity of 60,000 barrels per stream day (bpsd) and the new refinery, which is designed for 150,000 bpsd.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the NNPC Board and Management expressed appreciation to Nigerians for their support and enthusiasm over the refinery’s restart after years of operational challenges. The statement highlighted that the old Port Harcourt refinery is producing the following daily outputs:
- 1.4 million litres of straight-run petrol (naphtha), blended into gasoline
- 900,000 litres of kerosene
- 1.5 million litres of diesel
- 2.1 million litres of low-pour fuel oil (LPFO)
Additionally, the refinery incorporates crack C5 from Indorama Petrochemicals to blend gasoline that meets global standards.
The NNPC also reported significant progress in the rehabilitation of the new Port Harcourt refinery, with operations set to begin soon. In response to allegations that the refinery is not producing, NNPC dismissed such claims as baseless, urging Nigerians to focus on the positive advancements under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
The statement concluded with a call for unity and support to further strengthen Nigeria’s energy sector.
