PDP Slams Tinubu’s New Year Speech, Says It Lacks Solutions

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s New Year nationwide broadcast, describing it as a disappointment to Nigerians seeking relief from the country’s economic and social challenges.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the PDP accused the Tinubu administration of being out of touch with the realities facing Nigerians. The party attributed the ongoing hardships to what it termed “poorly implemented policies” and mismanagement of national resources under the President’s leadership.

“Nigerians are appalled that, despite repeated calls for actionable solutions, President Tinubu’s address failed to provide a clear policy direction or a concrete plan to reduce fuel prices, alleviate hunger, or revitalize the productive sectors of the economy,” the statement read.

The PDP noted that the President’s speech lacked strategies for addressing critical issues, including electricity, infrastructure, food production, and unemployment. The opposition party expressed disappointment in the absence of proposals to stimulate growth in small and medium-scale enterprises or create jobs.

Arguing that inefficiency in resource management has contributed to inflated fuel prices, the PDP claimed that with effective policies, national refining capacity, and robust border controls, petrol prices should not exceed N350 per liter.

The party accused the Tinubu administration of lacking the competence and resolve to harness Nigeria’s resources for the benefit of its citizens. It also rejected the President’s assertion that Nigerians have confidence in his leadership, describing the claim as “ludicrous” and out of touch with public sentiment.

“Nigerians have lost faith in this administration and are eagerly looking forward to the next elections to end the nightmare represented by the APC,” the statement concluded.

The PDP reiterated its call for an alternative governance approach, emphasizing the urgency of addressing the nation’s pressing challenges.
