PDP Crisis Worsens as Wike-Led Faction Expels Three Governors, Top Party Leaders

The internal crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) intensified on Tuesday as the faction loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, announced the expulsion of Governors Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), and several other senior party figures.

The escalation followed a dramatic confrontation at the party’s national headquarters in Wadata Plaza, Abuja, where rival factions arrived for parallel National Executive Committee (NEC) and Board of Trustees (BoT) meetings.

In its session, the factional NEC also expelled former BoT Chairman Senator Adolphus Wabara, former National Vice Chairman Bode George, and the recently elected National Chairman, Kabiru Turaki, SAN. The move came just days after the opposing faction expelled Wike and his supporters at the controversial national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State.

During the Abuja meeting, the factional NEC dissolved the state executive councils in Oyo, Bauchi, Zamfara, Yobe, Lagos, and Ekiti, directing the immediate establishment of caretaker committees and the conduct of fresh congresses.

Reading the communiqué, the faction’s National Secretary, Senator Sam Anyanwu, said the NEC deliberated on a report by Acting National Chairman Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed, which cited alleged violations of Articles 58(1) and 59(1) of the PDP Constitution.

According to the communiqué:
“NEC received the report of the Acting National Chairman, Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed, detailing breaches of Articles 58(1) and 59(1), including anti-party activities, disobedience to court orders, and conduct bringing the party into disrepute.
“NEC approved the commencement of disciplinary procedures against the following: Adolphus Wabara, Olabode George, Ben N. Obi, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, Bala Mohammed, Oluseyi Makinde, Dauda Lawal, Taofiq Arapaja, Setonji Koshoedo, Okechukwu Obiechina Daniel, Woyengikuro Daniel, Mohammed Kadade Suleiman, Emmanuel Ogidi, Sumaila Adamu Burga, Umar Sani, Udom Emmanuel, and Emmanuel Enorden.”

The deepening conflict, marked by conflicting disciplinary actions and rival claims to legitimacy, has plunged the PDP into its most turbulent phase in years, raising fresh concerns about the future of the opposition party.
