Nottingham Forest have parted ways with head coach Nuno Espírito Santo, citing “recent circumstances” as the reason for his dismissal.
In a statement on Monday, the club thanked the 51-year-old for his contribution during what it described as a “very successful era” at The City Ground, particularly his role in the 2024/25 season when Forest secured Europa League qualification.
“The Club thanks Nuno for his contribution during a very successful era at The City Ground, in particular his role in the 2024/25 season, which will forever be remembered fondly in the history of the Club,” the statement read.
Nuno, who signed a new contract in the summer, had recently admitted that his relationship with co-owner Evangelos Marinakis was “not the same” and “not so good as it was [last season].” He also openly criticised Forest’s transfer strategy, describing the squad as “unbalanced” and “very, very far” from being ready for the new campaign.
Forest are now exploring replacements, with Jose Mourinho reportedly among the leading candidates, alongside Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner, Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola, Fulham’s Marco Silva, and former USMNT manager Mauricio Pochettino.
The club will face Arsenal in their first Premier League fixture after the international break.
