NNPP Rejects El-Rufai’s Claim of APC Involvement in Party Crisis

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has strongly denied allegations by former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) orchestrated its internal crisis.

El-Rufai had alleged in a viral video on X that the APC was deliberately fueling disputes within opposition parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party, and NNPP, to weaken their leadership.

Reacting in a statement on Wednesday, NNPP’s National Chairman, Dr. Agbo Major, dismissed El-Rufai’s claims as false and misguided.

“El-Rufai’s assertions were based on inaccurate information he may have gathered from enemies of NNPP’s internal democratic processes,” Major stated.

He clarified that the crisis within the NNPP, which has since been resolved, stemmed from internal disagreements after the 2023 general elections, particularly the dissolution of a Memorandum of Understanding between the NNPP, The National Movement (TNM), and the Kwankwassiya Movement.

“The genesis and progress of the disagreement have been openly discussed on media platforms since 2023. If ordinary Nigerians are aware of these facts, it is disappointing that El-Rufai would make such unguarded statements,” he said.

The NNPP chairman further warned El-Rufai to steer clear of the party’s affairs, emphasizing that the NNPP is not an opposition to any political party, including the APC.

“Nigerians are no longer easily deceived. El-Rufai must understand that the choice of Nigeria’s leadership in 2027 will not be determined by him,” Major added.

He called for a shift in focus toward governance, urging leaders to prioritize the welfare of Nigerians through collaboration, hard work, and adherence to the rule of law.
