NLC Criticizes NNPCL-Dangote Refinery Price Dispute as Government Fraud

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has denounced the price conflict between the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) and Dangote Refinery, calling it a fraudulent scheme. The NLC argues that a deregulated market should encourage competition and choice, not restrictive practices.

During a press briefing at Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal Two, NLC President Comrade Joe Ajaero accused the government of intentionally sabotaging Dangote Refinery’s operations. He highlighted that despite assurances in August of last year to refurbish the nation’s refineries, none are operational as of September 2024.

Ajaero criticized the government’s inconsistent policies, which he believes have contributed to the current price dispute between NNPCL and Dangote Refinery. He argued that regulating the price of Dangote’s products is an unjust imposition on the private sector.

He urged Nigerians to protest against government attempts to control pricing for locally produced goods, arguing that it is unreasonable to enforce the same prices for domestic products as for imports.

On the implementation of the N70,000 minimum wage, Ajaero reassured that the process is on track according to the April 18, 2024 agreement. He confirmed that the National Assembly has approved the bill and that the government is committed to its enforcement.
