Nigeria Retains 4×100m Gold at African Athletics Championships

Team Nigeria continued its dominance in the women’s sprint relay after winning gold in the 4×100 meters event at the 2026 CAA Senior Athletics Championships held in Accra, Ghana.

The Nigerian quartet of Chigozie Rosemary, Jennifer Chukwuka Obi, Rosemary Chukwuma, and Miracle Ezechukwu clocked a winning time of 42.94 seconds in the final held on Friday at the University of Ghana Stadium.

Rosemary Chukwuma, who had earlier won silver in the women’s 100m, delivered a strong third-leg performance that helped set up a smooth finish for 17-year-old Miracle Ezechukwu, who anchored the team to victory.

Liberia claimed silver with a time of 43.05 seconds, while host nation Ghana finished third in 44.85 seconds.

The result extends Nigeria’s unbeaten run in the women’s 4×100m relay at the African Championships since 2016, marking a fourth consecutive title in the event.

In the men’s 4×100m final, Nigeria settled for silver after being narrowly beaten by Côte d’Ivoire in the closing stages, while Ghana took bronze.

With the latest results, Nigeria has now secured nine medals at the ongoing championships three gold, four silver, and two bronze  with the competition scheduled to conclude on Sunday.
